HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHARLOTTE CATE'S BIRTHDAY
I love Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas! It has been my favorite Christmas book since I was a young child. I also love a good party. Now, when I say I love a good party, I really mean that I love planning a good party.

When planning a party, I love starting with the invitation design which sets the stage for the event with colors, scheme, feel, and details. For this one, I used a folded card layout to give the feel of the beloved How the Grinch Stole Christmas! book. I went with Dr. Seuss' book cover design and updated with the party colors - pink and green. When opening the card, I borrowed text from Dr. Seuss while incorporating current ideas such as socially distanced gatherings and Charlotte Cate turning EIGHT! It felt very timely this year.

Next, I thought about special details that would make the drive-by birthday parade special for Charlotte Cate and her guests. I thought about what would make a lasting impression on an eight year old - lots of balloons, a snow machine, hot cocoa, donuts, and chocolate bark. I also knew we had to have the Grinch, himself (Thanks, Pops)!

I chose balloons in pinks and greens while incorporating reds, as well. When creating a balloon installation, I've found that balloons in varying sizes, colors, and finishes make the arch visually more interesting. This was the largest balloon installation I've ever done (about 400 balloons). Normally I stick to a simple installation over my dining room table; however, for a drive-by parade, I knew I wanted something a little more special! I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. I also included a 4' replica of the invitation with the balloon installation.

As guests drove by, we handed out Whoville Hot Cocoa, Whoville Who-Donuts, and Whoville Who Hash (pink peppermint and marshmallow birthday chocolate bark). I wanted to tie into my invitation design so each treat was branded with the Grinch or Cindy Lou Who in the perfect party shade of pink. The Grinch also gave guests Grinch balloons as he danced in the snow flurries.

After the parade, we celebrated inside with family. Charlotte Cate's cake was a breakfast coffee cake covered in sprinkles and a custom "Eight is Great" and "CC" cake topper.

Despite the social distancing this year, Charlotte Cate's birthday party was one to remember!
